Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent liposculpture is the most advanced technique of permanently removing excess fat deposits in areas resistant to diet and exercise. It is called tumescent liposuction because after filling the fatty spaces with dilute local anesthesia, the fat can be safely removed in a fashion that allows for less swelling, quicker recovery with less pain and bruising, using tiny liposuction instruments. It is also considered the safest technique of liposuction.
Tumescent liposuction is a procedure that demands both rigorous understanding of underlying anatomy and an understanding of artistic and ideal aesthetic anatomy. The most common areas of localized body fat that are removed in women include the lower abdomen, upper inner and outer thighs, hips, waist, buttock, and underneath the arms and neck.
In men, the abdomen, love handles, and breasts are the most common areas treated with liposuction. Women’s heavy, pendulous breasts can also be treated with this technique and it is gaining in popularity because no deforming incisions are left on the breast after healing occurs.
Tumescent liposuction is done in the office or OR (with minimal sedation) and downtime is measured in days, not weeks.
Some examples of tumescent liposuction are shown below.
