Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL)
The IPL system is ideal for treating sallow, unevenly pigmented skin, rosacea and wrinkles. In our practice we use the Prolite IPL system, made by Alderm.
The Prolite also reduces the size of pores and tightens sagging skin. It can be used on the face, neck, chest, and hands. There is little to no downtime with this treatment. A series of three to six treatments is usually performed in order to obtain maximum benefit. However, in the willing patient, we combine IPL with ALA (a topical agent) for a more intensive single session peeling of the skin. This produces slightly faster results but leads to longer downtime.
The procedure takes approximately 45 minutes and a topical anesthetic is usually applied. Some examples of patients who have used IPL are shown below.
